Industrial Transformers

Industrial transformers are essential elements of AC power distribution systems because they allow for voltage to be stepped up or down according to the needs of equipment. They do this without changing the frequency or amount of power, making it possible for connected devices to operate with reliability and consistency. Because they utilize no continuously moving parts, they offer exceptional longevity and require little in terms of maintenance.

Current Midwest has a wide range of dry type transformers from leading manufacturers. These are available in single-phase and three-phase models.

Unlike standard industrial electrical transformers, dry type transformers do not use liquid for dissipating excess heat and temperature regulation. The coils in these transformers utilize a gaseous or dry insulation medium to meet the requirements for temperature classifications. This category can be broken down further into three types.

Ventilated units use circulation through vent openings to maintain the proper temperature. Non-ventilated dry type transformers dissipate heat through the enclosure, and are used in areas where there is a risk of corrosion or combustion. Encapsulated models use solid insulating materials such as sand or gravel for heat management.

Single-Phase vs. Three-Phase Transformers

The power supply of an electrical component will dictate when a single-phase transformer will be sufficient and when a three-phase transformer is required. Typically, single phase transformers are suitable for low voltage appliances like those used in residential and retail installations while three phase transformers are necessary to run industrial equipment and other heavy machinery with higher power supply loads.

Whatever your particular use case calls for, you can be sure that the experts at Current Midwest will be able to help you find the best transformer that works best for your unique environment.
